Award Winning Newborn Photographer – Lindsay O’Connell Photography
I’m sure some of you have seen recent posts on social media, and I wanted to write a short blog about this. I am so incredibly honored to receive the Newborn Excellence Award for 2017!
I started my business in 2015. I’ve mentioned this briefly in the past. We were expecting our third child. I was a stay at home mother to our two other children and always loved art. I fell out of practice and stopped sketching and drawing in my teens. I always felt a void of a hobby, or creative outlet. I wanted to get back into drawing but never could seem to find the time to sit down and focus.
Newborn and baby photography seemed to really pick up on my social media feed and I started seeing these beautiful images. I couldn’t even process how these photographers were creating these amazing pieces of art. I had an entry level DSLR gifted to me by my husband years prior, as an anniversary gift soon after having our first child. I’d look at the images in my feed and think ” my camera doesn’t do that!” I started researching photography and learned that it isn’t the camera at all. It is the person using the camera as a tool and telling it exactly what to do. This is when I discovered the term “manual mode”. I took the leap and took out that old DSLR and switched it into manual mode to see what that even meant. Hmm, ok. That was an incredibly blurry photo. How does this work? I went on to pick up a book and read the entire thing. A whole boring book on exposure and learning manual mode. I practiced every single day. As I grew I made it my goal to “get this” I am going to learn how to use this camera and I am going to take newborn photos of our third child when he was born. I worked every single day at this and when he was born I did just that.
Finding photography has been amazing for me. I tapped back into my creative side, found a hobby I absolutely loved and over time turned that hobby into my full time business. After leaving my previous career to raise our family, I never thought I could love a “job” as much as I love mine.
I am so incredibly fortunate. Sure, running a business can be extremely challenging and in this one I pour my heart, blood and soul into it. There are times I am up until 1am working since I am still that mother of three! But at the end of the day, everything I do is the most rewarding thing I could have ever fell into.
In the past two and a half years I have worked non-stop on a mission to be the best photographer I can possibly be. I strive to provide my clients with a wonderful experience with someone they trust holding their baby and in finding ways to make families smile during their family sessions.
Upon receiving this award I cannot even put into words how amazing it felt. They say hard work pays off. And this is the first time in my business I was proven that it absolutely does. I am so honored my work has been valued in this way and I look forward to creating many more beautifully artistic images in the future. I look forward to all the babies I will get to hold and snuggle during 2018. And I look forward to capturing these fleeting moments for families. Thank you so much to all my clients that have continuously supported me. I am looking forward to seeing you all again in 2018 and I am looking forward to meeting those of you I have not photographed yet.
